5 Reviews of the Citadel 5
By: Hecate Reason: I own(ed) one Made in: 2011 Rating:
Recently bought this tent as we use a tiny Terra Nova for cycle-touring - which has been great.
Took this tent out of the bag and it was up in 10 minutes - easy, straightforward and sensible! It has a quality feel to it-all the seams, zips and connectors are sturdy and well-made. Ideal set-up, with two bedroom compartments - that can be linked or removed and a large living area. Doors are great (& windows) with fly-screens and clear panels, 2 so you can avoid the wind/rain. We are looking forward to luxury camping.

We purchased this tent for the new season to replace a Robens tent that we had used heavily for the last 10 years. We generally use our tents for a month continuously over the British summer and the Citadel really gives us home from home luxury. We purchased the footprint as well. The poles are a little heavy, but my wife needs the exercise to keep her trim and it's a real sense of achievement when she manages to get the tent up. It can be done by one person with a little planning!. The space is excellent and allows three of us to use large air beds( she needs them after straining her back putting the tent up). Standing space is excellent for myself and my son( both 6') and wifey loves it(5'4') The tent needs careful pegging and positioning of the guy lines to maximise the ventilation but has remained extremely stable in force 9 winds. The tent is taut and quiet, well made and tough. The only small criticism is that there were a couple of drops of water that came through the seam where the lamp hanging hook is attached. However, this was during the heaviest downpour that we have ever experienced in the last 20 years, so I am not about to complain. Well done Wild Country, this really is the 'mutts nuts'.

A very well made tent. Pitching is relatively easy but needs two people because of the weight of the steel poles. We bought the temperature modulator and groundsheet protector with the tent and these were well worth the extra. We camp in France in the summer and the temperature modulator makes a big difference. Excellent ventilation too. Our only gripe is that the bedrooms are relatively small for the size of the tent. If it had been one bedroom with a divider curtain it would have suited us better. Other than that, we are very pleased with the quality and design.

We upgraded to this tent, as we wanted one that we could stand up in and give us plenty living space. We got it last year, but this year is the first time that we have used it and we are really impressed with the tent. Plenty of room, head room, we used the other bedroom as a dressing room when just the both of us. We have had a lot of rain, this time and it held up beautifully. Pity that now we won't use it again till next year. If anyone is thinking of getting a family tent, this is one that I would definitely recommend. But do get a footprint (undersheet) and a moderator.

We got a Citadel 5 early this summer, I have a Terra Nova Quasar ETC but wanted a larger tent that we could stand up in for comfort and space. Went for the Citadel as it is made by Terra Nova and there build quality is generally good.Recently had 6 days at Eskdale C&CC site and it rained heavily for 4 of them. The tent performed well. Some water ingress probably at one of the low level bedroom vents. The poles are heavy and strong and although the tent fabric is thin it is held taught and does not flap around. Well worth investing in the groundsheet protector and temperature moderator. Good ventilation, too good on the front door which lacks a good fastening on the bottom, small patch of velcro not enough.Great size for two persons with one of the bedrooms removed giving room for a wardrobe and extra storage space. Generally very pleased.

Manufacturer's Description
Updated for 2011 with new Jumbo pegs and kevlar reinforced main guy points.
The 2 bedrooms can be attached independently and will sleep 5 people on airbeds, while the large living area has 2 full-height entrances with bug-proof doors. The groundsheet is sewn-in throughout for maximum protection from damp, draughts and crawling insects, and the new Wild Country Jumbo Poles are the strongest we have ever used for family tents. This gives the Citadel 5 a strong and stable feeling, supported by a large number of reinforced guylines.
Ventilation is provided by adjustable low level vents on either side of the bedrooms, a ventilation window and additional high vents, all of which help to keep the temperature constant and minimise condensation. The doors can also be converted to awnings using awning poles (one set included).
For sunny weather use there is an optional Temperature Moderator (sold separately) that can be fitted to the roof, which also helps to protect the tent from UV light damage.
